Generally I agree with you and I was leaning very much towards hating her introduction and follow up apearances but this is the first chapter where she actually acted like a friend towards the mc and not some love rival, so if it keeps going like this, I don't mind her showing up

I've always thought it's so stupid when people get hated because they're seen with a popular girl. How lame can you be to deny someone their success just because you don't have a chance anyway?

They're teens. They don't know what kind of people they're going to grow up as. For that reason, I think his fears are reasonable and at least understandable. I don't buy the, "You should know what kind of girl she is," excuse. Still not a good enough reason not to try, though, since if you never try, you never accomplish anything. And this is still as good of start you can get.

Yeah, love rivals tend to make the story drag more, while actual friends can be a benefit.

It's not a harem though? A harem would be 3+ love interests, no? Even then, with the relationship was already decided even before Nikaido's character was revealed. Both he and she know their places in things so even calling it a love triangle would be a hell of a stretch.

Especially considering in the Web novels she wasn't ever one to begin with. I think the most competitive/rivalry came from him babysitting his dad's loanshark enforcer's daughter.
