yeah, the tutor was actually wrong on this. You shouldn't let past/famous successes blindly convince you that a system or method is good or working. Even if a few people happen to do really well, if it's still failing for others, it needs to be put under review rather than writing off the people it doesn't work for. Further, as Kaiser said, you need to adapt to your student's needs. He wasn't a teacher in a massive classroom, he was focused on one student so he should adjust to fit their needs rather than doing the same shit for 40 years and hitting them when it doesn't work.
