Yeah, going to go with it's just bunch of bullshit posturing. Most of the quoted text would require their opponents to be mostly incapacitated or held by a partner, not to mention a waste of resources and equipment.

So if they were actually serious about brawling with a bow they would do things like attach spikes and or blades to the bow stave and a wire string to act as a garrote. Or better yet get just a pair of daggers / spiked gauntlets they could used alternate between while changing between CQ and ranged attacks.
