Shouldn't his name be Kikuchiyo instead of Kikucho? There are 2 separate kanji 千代.

You are correct. It was translated as Kikuchou because in the first few pages, his name was only written in vertical scrolling katakana, and written that way, キク千ヨ looks a lot like キクチョ. Thank you for pointing that out, and thank goodness I have all the original files saved.
