Why romance tag?
why romance tag?
Because Ritsu is repeatedly queer-coded? Solidly lesbian. Sayo not so much. The style is broadly romantic about fascination and a close mutual bond. And despite that the story does not have a queer or yuri focus.

Imagine all the same things gender-swapped, or even a few parts, and it may be more obvious.

Ritsu’s preferences as an adult were practically confirmed early on when the investigating sempai casually asked Ritsu if there’s a girl she has her eye on, not person, not guy, not story lead, and he wasn’t showing his hand that he’s digging for his own story. Of course the mutual blushing and the sudden heaviness of Ritsu’s infatuation. When Sayo said she’ll play for Ritsu, Ritsu reacted like it was accidental flirting. Regardless of Ritsu’s leanings mentioned and alluded to, there’s not much romantic development, and Ritsu may not have been aware of it beyond those scenes adding to her motives. So that leaves this under the broad umbrellas of what’s sold as girls’ love and chaste romance.

Also, getting emotional from observing a performance, or even fixated on someone else’s style like Ritsu, or mostly caring about one spectator, may not necessarily be romantic attraction but it’s often used to signal it.

So yeah, the tagging is good enough, it’s not like there’s a straight tag and gender is totally irrelevant so far. It‘s enough that a fan in love (probably) kills her suffering best friend’s mom, because compassion.
