This is because it's using a zoomed-out, high-angle view that is usually for scanning complex scenes or making the subjects in the shot look weak and vulnerable. I remember this same camera angle from the last 2 episodes of Evangelion.
This scene would be infinitely cooler with a close-up, low-angle camera perspective. I mean, I don't have any degree in cinematography or anything, but I still get how it works in concept from just watching movies and tv. So how can these artists get it so wrong?
