The text in the raw is "郷に入っては 郷に従え", which translates somewhat literally to "When you have entered the villiage, follow the villiage's customs". No mention of Rome at all.

The closest common phrase in English would be "When in Rome, do as the Romans" so it's a reasonable substitution in most contexts... but probably not this one.
The direct translation is easy enough to understand without having to turn it into any idiom though. For the atmosphere, and as some people are nitpicking about it, I think it would've suited the story better.

Could be that he got it from context, or every region has a city or state they use in a similar way, so he just assumed there's a place named Rome wherever the mc has traveled through.
considering that the MC in his previous life was an omyouji practitioner from feudal japan which were known to be isolationist country, reading that make me winced. but i get what the translators trying to do, most likely there is an idiom in japanese but to get the sentiment across, they had to adapt it to english, so they had to use english/modern idiom.

"When in Rome do as Roman's do" aye?! might be nitpicking but how do they know this expression. Or is this isekai world the same as earth but with magic.
Maybe the japanese version doesn't say "Rome" and the translation makes this stick out

(I haven't read the raw so this is a speculation)

When in Rome, do as the Romans do?

Who the fuck are the Romans?

Uhh... I... hmm. I really have no idea. Just something I heard somewhere.

Translation is rough because the rest of that sentence ("So it's a _____ kind of thing") makes more sense if it's clear the phrase used is a common idiom, and choosing the literal translation loses that distinction.

If I'd been editing this, I would have suggested something like "to each their own" which isn't as exact a translation as "when in Rome" but is an idiom that avoids the jarring city name. I'd have to think about it though, I'm not sure that substitution works well enough.

Didn't expect his harem to become an adventurer party. Now all we need is the princess to join in.
