Ranko attack was a typical Transference Syndrome, she thought he was her "prince charming" saving her from stray dog, but for him it was selfish act of saving the DVD's... that's some mild Gal Cleaning shit.

Meanwhile something similar could be said about Rea being saved by Chihiro from her father, but she "saved" herself by accidentally dying and doesn't own anything to Chihiro.
Her feelings for her though can be from him being honest towards her, although he started to show interest after her zombiefication...

That woman from Darin story seems remarkably a like Chihiro and Mero mother or probably had same thing happening to her, at first she cared for Mero but eventually would attack her so she had to... damn...
