It's even worse living in a gendered language nation cause the only way to keep it ambiguous (as partner, companion, etc. all have different variations for each pronoun set) you have to go out of your way to say something like "the person I'm dating" (as the noun for person is feminine 100% of the time), and it's pretty much a guaranteed outing
I wish more languages had ungendered features tbh
I’m Jewish and there’s always this dang controversy about the pronoun for Gd in translations, because Hebrew is a gendered language, and MONOtheism is very important, so “they” get’s contentious and…
I say “look, it’s an old book, and they had to choose one, so they picked the one that matched who was in power at the time let’s talk about that for a second and just move on”.
Modern Hebrew is another language and situation. There’s effort to add neutral to that, which makes sense, because it’s a conlang.
Also happening in Yiddish, which is more surprising, considering the communities that use it. (Very traditional ones)
Linguistics is awesome, languages are stupid.
…WHY ISN’T THIS SERIES MORE POPULAR OVER HERE?!
