a mirror does not automatically focus the light it need to be curved inward to do that generally, and if you curve it outward you actually unfocus it, now add a refractive layer and it create some smooth lighting and not blind you when the sun and you desk align (trust me a need to dodge the sun every summer evening at my job lol)
