Yep. Looks like he is under her control. I assume he is struggling against it because he is seeing the princess in danger and trying to get away. It would make sense that he was barely under her control at the beginning when he said to the princess that he didn't want her to die, and that he was just capturing her. He's probably in love with her so much that the brainwashing is very difficult to maintain.
