Yeah, but so much of this could have easily been prevented by simply declaring that she is the mastermind behind the assassination attempt. Even if the princess believes that her fiancé is the actual culprit, having the brainwasher imprisoned or at the very least implicated would throw a massive wrench in his plans. Part of the whole thing about a brainwasher who needs to delicately manipulate people is that you need time and people not to know that they are at risk of bring brainwashed.
