it was probably a lot of basic research, not just notes. she was supposedly going to publish it, after all.
More like, programmer needs to find a module that runs in n^2 or better but only has shit that runs in n^4 with marginally better avg, and somebody pops in with analysis that leads to a new algo with nlogn average with n^4 worst case.
