And yes,one can use -kun if they're actually saying so in the original,which might actually be the case,but as we can see,she's been flip flopping bewteen "her" and "him",so unless the character explicitly does that(which they can't in Japanese),the scanlator has screwed up big time.

It was less discomfort and more of a situation where the "him" and "her" could've been resolved with context that Shiranui was female...
