He's rude and inconsiderate to the point the other old men inside the jewel decide to unite to help Lyle instead. They also make use of his onetis just to have him give Lyle his skills. The LN version actually highlights his bad personality traits instead of glossing over them like the WN.

Having to read those while not knowing how strong Lyle actually is like the LN would be the worst.

It certainly is a potential benefit of the adaptation train -- a good editorial eye can do wonders for a story.
