I might be totally off-base here, but is the superstition about cleaning toilets leading to good luck the rationale behind the gag in Ace Attorney where Phoenix is always cleaning the office bathroom? Since he has pretty crappy luck, it would make sense that he would do everything in his power to improve it (to no avail).
