The "witch hunt" or rather "vampire hunt" begun fully.
They need to move in large groups as panicking vampires act uncontrollably and as seen, can run quickly albeit in pain from sunlight.
That's some heavy shit, Kanami suffered through loss of a father, then failed marriage and her mother Tae was always there for her.
Tae working hard to support her daughter, pouring all help her daughter needed in unpredictable hard times, really wish I had such great caring parent.
Unfortunately Shiki selfish act interrupted Kanami healing after misfortune, turning her mother into a monster.
Now it was Kanami turn to help her mother, but drawing own blood daily isn't possible and would most likely kill her eventually.
It's a terrible thing villagers did, since Tae was among very few Shiki who did had human side and wouldn't dare to feed directly from people, but without steady source of blood from elsewhere, that was a mercy kill.
I think Motoko ratting out Tae was from jealousy, that she came back and her daughter Shihori died and son Shigeki rotted away in her arms, but also believe her state of mind wasn't comprehending the situation clearly, she was her friend after all.
