I just find it funny that most of the arc is them heaping reason upon reason for the death penalty to be revoked, only for the mangaka to pull out the the most hilariously over the top strawman imaginable to immediately double down and say that the death penalty is good actually.

Like, the death penalty causes needless death, is a spectacle meant to distract, doesn't solve any of the underlying issues, as far as we can tell is ended without issue in the OG timeline, and the only reason Marie is against the ending of capital punishment is because she wouldn't be able to murder her political rivals. And then they pull out "rape rape murder rape" man to "disprove" all that.

Also, death by firing squad is the most humane and effective execution method in the world based on what data we have, and people only feel uncomfortable with it and call it "barbaric" because it feels too much like what execution actually is, which is state sponsered murder.
