i think her power has always been bone manipulation from the start. the Luffy-style is just her making her bone elastic and stretchy. it's her "ideal" use because she thinks it's beautiful, but actually not powerful enough.

meanwhile, the Kimimaro-style she shows here might be how it should be used to maximize the offensive power. but yeah, it looks kinda ugly
