Meh, evil foreigner archetype always leaves a bad taste in my mouth (pun not intended)
Europeans always had a taste for exotic (pun not intended) and IIRC in this exact time period were really into Japan in particular, so I doubt the dude would turn his nose at local cuisine like that, especially if he's asking for curry as a replacement.
Like, get your story straight, dude. What? He was just making a scene deliberately? Then he wouldn't accept even 100% perfect curry either.
In some other time-travel cooking manga I don't quite remember the name of foreign emissaries were just somewhat homesick and protagonist wanted to cheer them up, it was a lot nicer story.
