There could be seeds of a good story, IF I understood things right 1) She wasn't doing well at school so she has been working aimlessly 2) He is a robot at work who only cares about his gacha addiction.

So if the story moves toward 1) Having the girl find her own path, emancipation, a way for her to find passion and a sense of ownership (Cosplay? But could be something else too) 2) The guy realizes that he has been wasting time and money, he is delusional about his "investment"......then yeah, sure, we got an interesting story.
But is that going to be it? Is this author capable?

ngl if you think being a whale is cool, or that buying a 2D skin for a character is peak you GENUINELY need to reconsider your life. I get that people have stuff they like but be objective before burning all of your lifeline on it
