I can really see how it's leaning a bit too far on LARPing.

So bikini armor not only doesn't cover most of your body, but also doesn't even protect the parts it does cover?

It does protect the parts it does cover... But it's kinda useless if the rest of the body isn't properly protected anyway.

On that note: In real combat there are only two ways for a common soldier to actually kill a knight: One is by thrusting though the gaps (Yes, precisely those that we are taught to protect in this omake) of said armor or by using a heavy weapon like a sledgehammer or a maze. Plate armor is pretty resistant, only a specific tipe of arrows where able to thrust through them.

That's the whole reason halfswording exists. If you use the side of the pommel and the force of gravity, some of the impact actually translates inside the armor, particularly in the head.

And then the common soldiers figured out longbows and crossbows, and no armor available made the knights safe.

Longbows and crossbows weren't what killed knights.

Firearms were. Because bows require strength and dexterity, crossbows strength (though later could be reloaded with a handle) and precision in loading... firearms required no strength or training past "how to clean and reload your gun". They also obscured vision, creating chaos on the field, making it harder for charging infantry or even cavalry.

That's when people finally had to leave heavy armors at home, in favor of something cheaper and more mobile - if your soldiers are gonna die anyway, might as well lose as little resources as possible. And maybe they'll kill someone before they bleed to death if they have less armor to carry around.

@Raknasuu

Half-swording is any move that has you grab the blade with your (ideally armored) glove and use it to stab at enemy or push with both hands for more pressure. What you're thinking of is a specific kind of half-swording, mordhau, to use the pommel as blunt weapon.

Fun story: there is whole plethora of things that claimed to kill the knights. Did it stopped polish knights? Hell no XD
AFAIK its not even firearms in general - that was around for quite some time - but specifically muskets. What's so different in muskets? They are really big.

Thanks, @Abedeus I forgot to mention that. Which is funny because you'll also have to half-sword if you were trying to stab through the gaps in the armor, even if just for sheer precision.

So yes. Half-swording essentially turns your sword into a blunt weapon or a short spear.

No worries. Not many people even know about half-swording or any of its variants, and many would assume it to be impractical or dangerous considering it's a bladed weapon. But there's tons of illustrations of people stabbing others with spear-like grip on their sword.
