ends up just being bait, like they just don’t get together in any capacity for some reason, which is probably why the previous translators gave up on it

This would be much better as a series if Komaki gave more hints here and there that Hishikawa is starting to grow on her in a potentially romantic way. It's not much of a ''will they or won't they'' if one of the parties involved only sorta tolerates the other at best (^^) They have fun interactions and all but I can't help but want a bit more out of it every chapter. Giving a few more hints would even make the comedy work better in the end, the funny moments would land better with some contrast.
