FYI the author can't give you permission for this even if they wanted to. The actual publication is owned by Young Magazine, and thus Kodansha. They're the sole proprietors of the distribution rights.

At most the author can say they'll turn a blind eye to it, but that's not actual legal permission. Kodansha can just send a dmca regardless because you're still infringing on their rights.

I've talked to authors about this before. They have essentially zero power before the publisher.
