He's an unpopular, unattractive geek who's experienced first hand how hypocritical others are and how differently people are treated for something like their physical appearance or not fitting in with a group. Shima, again, has his own problems but Ujiie is right in that he doesn't have to worry about others rejecting him in the same way Ujiie does because his looks mean that people are generally, as far as he can see, going to give him a pass on things or want to be around him.
That could be a point of view to consider if there wasn't mitsumi right there in the center of the story who isn't described as attractive and yet still gets treated well because she's not a sperg and understands empathy. Ujie is the type of character to complain about people discriminating over appearances but in the end he's the one who cares most about looks (like that's why he has a crush on yasaka) and he's the one who discriminates the most
He doesn't try to understand others because he's convinced to be in the right and it's that part of his personality that we see evolving in those chapters, the last sentence of the chapter being a clear proof of that.

Mitsumi has friends because she's extroverted in general. Like that'll happen eventually. Mitsumi also got made fun of to her face in front of her boyfriend by two girls because she was talking to him. She's treated well by her friends but is also definitely looked down upon man.

Right? Like at this point I'm just wondering if people can empathize to him more than they do Shima hence the overwhelming defense. Because at the core of it the argument is still "shima's life is not that hard because he's good looking", like all Shima is is his looks and not also his, however fake, easy going chill persona that makes people gravitate towards him. Saying "well ujie is ugly and people look down on him for that so him doing the same to shima is fine and dandy" is a double standard, no?

Mitsumi can be extroverted, but people outside of her friend group warm up to her because she's a genuine person. Her being not traditionally attractive is not the only reason people look down on her, she's also seen as a country bumpkin. The fact that she is still able to make friends and connections despite all of that makes ujie looks extra ass.

I had this in the back burner for a while... Vol. 9 gets out... went ahead and read it... It is not enough... read everything from here... not enough... Realizes that the previous update to the series was 4 months ago.

...why did i have to pick this up? :aquadrink:
