Yeah he wasnt a good person but I don't think what he did deserve getting his daughter killed. Well the cult might think so.
Well at least this explain the length he is taking to get to just have a talk wih the ex wife, he was an obsessive journalist in the past.

I still don't get his expression on the last panel tho.
