Woah... what an unexpected twist. Who knew she was such a misanthrope before meeting him? Maybe just your typical teenage rebellious streak? Albeit quite extreme in this case.
Still, you know it really is just a stupid phase of hers, because falling in love with him caused all of this to go away, to the point where she is genuinely nice and polite to everyone because of him, especially to his family, and I don't think it's just because she's trying to get into their good books either. Just like how he was acting "strangely and irrationally" after falling for her, it appears that she has paralleled his own development in her own way.
Also that line on the chapter title page is absolute bars. It's written quite simply, yet so poignant.
