Yeah, and I don't really "care" about them. We had those arcs already and this series never gave a feeling the MCs would go on an adventure to defeat the big evil; as far as I'm concerned next chapter could just be: "and then they protected the city from the demon invasion. The End." and I would actually be happy.

Male successor to the throne has been away learning statecraft for years and conveniently returns to the kingdom immediately when the need for a well learned king is needed and she has the opportunity to return to her friends is presented.
Still sweet but not even remotely subtle, though I guess the author never claimed to be so that's fine.
