What on earth is the emperor working on with so many seals?
If he's about to die then that means Shou's job will become even more important.
Surely it would be beneficial to keep the shadow alive as well, I don't really see the point of this not-dodging-swords training.

Yeah, the not dodging a sword training seemed to be one intended for bodyguards, but Shou is not a bodyguard. Technically he and the prince should never be seen walking around together. It should be either the prince or the shadow going anywhere. So, there shouldn't exist a situation where he would save the prince by jumping in front of a sword. If he's alone somewhere, pretending to be the prince, then dodging the sword would save the prince the trouble of finding a new body double.
