You never get rid of an inherited disease like this. As long as a carrier exists, it will keep popping up. The best you can do is not have children with anyone who is a carrier, but as generations go by one or two will accidentally mix.
Look up Tay-Sachs disease. See how it affects the Cajun in Louisiana. My family has such a disease. I'm clean, but there are still cousins being born with it. Now, with modern medical science, the males who used to die are living, creating more carriers.

Habsburgs got nothing on these elves goddamn
I mean, the hapsburg are definitely more inbred lol
according to google inbreeding from 1516 to 1700
Though I guess we dont know how many generations of high elves havs inbred and how often it occurred :thonk:
ok maybe Im wrong . . .
80% ( according to google ) were between relatives so I assume thr high elves were more like 99.99% or 100% but how does the longer times between boinking factor into this. Hmmm

That's a nice opening scene.

This is the amount it takes for inbreeding to have a notable effect. Just one or a few generations doesn't matter much, but eventually, it goes like this. Back in the Medieval Ages, when people were a bit more close knit, they generally married closer in blood, so it was more of a problem then. In the modern day, it's not really a concern, but the stigma remains in most moral codes.

Yeah, there's a big different between saving everyone, and saving the ones you have the opportunity to.

She's so cheap. The funny part is that she thinks she isn't. Or she's just pretending and letting him off easy.

Thankfully, elves usually have long lives and small libidos so its seldom an issue If their kids are also their siblings
Having long life might give them some resistance to it, other than just fewer generations per century. There's some genetic or cellular decay that affects humans over time, which is why we can't get much older than a hundred years. Even just potentially I've heard the limit is still 150-ish years.

She worked at a plastics factory in the late 90s and due to poor working conditions all her kids came out with some kind of mutation.
Being exposed to various shit (more or less literally) like that is a much more common cause than inbreeding. At least nowdays.

How is the Goddess of Horses in a higher standing than the Goddess of Elves?
Probably more believers. She's not restricted to an inbred forest village. And maybe some other isolated cultures.

It does make sense fron a biological perspective that long lived races wouldnt experience genetic bottlenecks within 3 or 4 generations.

I still havent seen one that addresses it by having the married pairs be 2-3 generations apart because of their eternal youth, that'd be similar to some endangered species rehab plans that do genetic back crossing to further prolong occurnce of genetic bottlenecks
Actually, it makes no sense at all that long-lived races would experience any form of non-epigenetic deviance, because their telomeres and genetic code in general would have to be sufficiently strong to continue cell replication without degradation that they wouldn't experience genetic damage from natural mutation through incorrectly copied alleles, broken or extra chromosomes, and the like; the author has a fundemental misunderstanding of how genetic damage occurs. Same goes for the dramatically misborn babies; you see that sort of damage caused by uranium poisoning or similar (there are also chemicals that can affect fetuses during their gestation (amongst them being alcohol)) causing epigenetic damage, but those are environmental defects, rather than genetic, and someone so affected wouldn't carry those forward to the next generation.

(For clarification on epigenetics: unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes are reversible and do not change your DNA or its sequencing, but they can change how your body reads any given DNA sequence. Think of it like a corrupted or badly coded image viewer app that shows a picture as a garbled mess, but using one that was made normally you can see the image just fine.)
