I remember in an older chapter people were questioning her 'child mentality' and someone else said to be patient as there was some legitimate reason for it much later (and it seems the credit page illustrations kinda-maybe hint at that too).

Assuming they're correct, I hope we get there soon, as it just feels like the author took a slightly dim adult character and mentally regressed them more and more into an actual, literal toddler.

Until then, my theory is that she is literally a child using magic to pretend be an adult, and sneaked out. Pretty sure it contradicts some previous scene, but it legitimately makes more sense then the alternative, currently.
