I think she was hoping he'd tell her he liked her hair, since he clearly liked it when Maho-chan did it for her at school. But I'm sure she'd have been thrilled with him saying that, too.

I like how the artist even showed that Mei's painted her fingernails, and they're blue to match her dress. Kaede won't notice that, but it's clear she wanted to be as cute as possible while spending time with him.

That last thing making me think of when Chitoge from Nisekoi did the same thing to try to get the male lead of that series to notice and comment on it. Each day she would do a different thing to catch his eye. Started with lip gloss, moved to fancy hair product, then painted nails, and lastly changed her hair ribbon (normally she has a plain red one that has sentimental value, but she changed it for a blue and white plaid one for this one instance). Finally she managed to confront him on it, and he confirmed he noticed each instance but the ribbon. Was kind of a cute manga chapter and anime segment. The story in general is pretty hectic, though, and the final stretch is extremely emotionally heavy, with plenty of 'impossible odds' feeling situations. Very different from this.

... Aaanyway, enough of that tangent... this chapter was adorable, and this whole manga has been a good palate cleanser after I read through that rollercoaster of a story (I enjoyed it, but lots of crying).

For reference, these are both mangas I started reading from chapter 1 after having watched their anime adaptations that turned me on to them. I've been binge-reading a few things that I had already watched the anime to of late.
