I think my biggest problem with her father's declaration that she didn't need school was that he didn't finish the rationale: because she needs to marry and start her own family to support the business AND herself. That was the whole reason women were kept out of school, so they could start families that would provide for them, while men went to school to get jobs to support families. There's upsides and downsides to both, but for a father to pull his daughter out of school but then force her to work without making any provision to find her a husband was the ultimate in short-sightedness. What a horrible parent.

Um Rei really didn't need to make himself human. A normal size cat would've been just fine.
