The guy wasn't born with this power, so him seeing someone die right in front of him (even if it's just a vision) and acting irrational as a result doesn't sound to farfetched to me. I mean, the other two times his ability activated, a kid bumped into him and he fell into a rice paddy.

A good localization for the second bullet could have been "Could it be that Itou-kun helped me avoid that car?" or even "saved me from that car?". That would probably be closer to the spirit of the question.
