Well, good, they didn't go down that road, so far, and I don't think I'm seeing any possibility of them getting back together, just catching up between friends, and acknowledging how much they've both grown in the past year. And yet, at the same time, how much they haven't actually changed, either.
Also him realizing how he's not really been present and mindful. Yes, people, it was, indeed, his fault, and he's acknowledging that fact. To be honest, early on, it felt like they were better than his relationship with Honoka, but I suppose they weren't that much better. He just happened to have a few moments where he felt like he understood her better, but then he got complacent.
