I wonder if it's the author's personal preference that everyone in this is quietly having a bunch of trouble and/or is involved in edgy counter-culture, or whether it's really reflective of how harsh the lesbian dating scene was in Japan two decades ago when this was published.

Man, this one was really kind of nice. The art style is not entirely my thing (oh god the chins, save meee), but the stories are kind of nice and I think I would like to read the rest of them as well
