Oh, well. Sometimes I like airhead main characters, but more often I don't. Alas, this falls to the latter category. I just can't keep reading this. The writing isn't that great either. The whole handling of the household was so bizarre that it doesn't serve well any further plot development. For example, there was nobody left at the mansion anymore, just Eugenie and the kids, but now she's a wanted woman for kidnapping already. Wait, why was there nobody? The king's official who announced the staff dismissal was right there. Yet he and his officers didn't mind anyone ransacking the place. He wasn't there to see the kids end up somewhere. But now suddenly Eugenie (who the heck even knew it was her?) is being hunted for kidnapping the kids. The bloody kids were right there the whole time, but nobody took them in. Maybe there actually is an explanation for all this nonsense, but I don't have the interest or patience to believe in that.
