I think, by what I saw in one of the last images, that he is taking the eels alive, which would absolutely keep it fresh, but does take a lot more space to carry them without spilling the water.

The maths on the ages just isn't working for me. The princess is seven, but Dee is only a little bit older than her? He's old enough to have a wife and toddler. Not only is he old enough to have worked his way up through the ranks of the military, but is now the village head. How is all of this supposed to fit together? At the oldest the princess would have still been a toddler herself whenever Dee left for the village, factoring in the MC's age plus time for pregnancy.
