I didn’t expect this series to turn into Crusader Kings but honestly I’m kinda all for it. The tech battles, fort defence, I’m a sucker for this mount and blade medieval shit.

But compared to Vinland Saga which did a multi year long fort defence, I’m not pulling my hair out at every decision.

I don't understand what is going on here...I need a map...
Summary of the ongoing war.
The Neantherals are led by a white-supremacist/nazi king who was actually a soldier in world war 2 trapped in the same time-traveling shennaigans. His sons are now likely princes/generals in the neantheral army. Judging from the bits and pieces of them coming from "the north", this is likely right before the ice age forcing the Europe-based neantherthals down into Africa in search of warmer climate and more food.
Prior to this battle, Dennis manipulated his father/the king and his brother (Georg) to lead the vanguard with him acting as the second. Dennis's plan was to have Georg charge into and die in battle in order for him to become the crown prince while finding out about the "unknown weapons" (catapults).
Wolf himself is likely the 3rd prince; and he likely just found out the enemies have iron-based weapons - far superior to anything the neantherthals have currently. The only tech/weapon advantage they have is the limited quantity of WW2-era firearms and bullets.
So the next few chapters will be interesting... is Georg going to die by Dennis's trechery? Georg may have been spared by Taiga, but Dennis may have Georg killed to seize the position of crown prince and the army. And what will the neantherthals do with the discovery of iron weapons?

Thank you for the translation, it's nice that we caught up to raws!

I like how fast this is moving, the author isn't messing around. I don't think the neanderthals can produce iron even with the weapon they stole, Taiga was extremely lucky to have someone knowledgeable in their group plus that laptop. My best guess is that Wolf will bring the sword back to their king and he will realize they are also time-travellers (unless he has already, I haven't read the old chapters in a while). There will probably be more bullshit with Yuka and Wolf as she is dumb as rocks and likely hasn't learned a thing from previous encounters, although given Mori's optimism he'll probably use that to reconcile both people down the line.

Basically Taiga doesn't have the manpower to defend all 3 locations. Enemies seem to know that, and they have built a forward base of operation in a nice spot (also underground) that can easily strike at at least 2 out of 3 locations. So Taigi went full scorched earth and burnt down one of his fortresses so it wouldn't fall into enemy's hand.

Quick clarification, Dennis is already the oldest of the three “siblings”. He just recently lost primary command of the army because the “King” stripped him of it due to his past failures. Also the siblings aren’t biological siblings, they are each offspring of the King’s other Nazi soldier comrades (who are now deceased due to old age), the King himself never had his own kid due to apparently being infertile.

I dunno but isn't that cave base a pretty easy thing to destroy? Just set fires on the entrances, and carbon monoxide will do the rest.
No one's going to let them set up giant bonfires at every entrance and who knows how air circulates in there.

Unless they have the tech to create a furnace hot enough to process iron, at best the Neanderthals can only get dropped weapons. Iron is super hard to extract from ores due to high melting point. Naturally occurring irons are oxidized as well, so special know-how is needed to extract that oxygen out. Simplest one is to use coal (which also leads to creating steel and cast iron) but that's not something prehistoric humans can know.

Anyway, instead of short sword, axes or two-handed swords are probably better for a disorganized formation. Short swords like the gladius were good because of how the Roman fought, not because of the inherent advantage of the weapons.

Exactly what I was thinking, we're going to witness some stone age war crimes soon. Taiga shedding manly tears into the blazing inferno, the Neanderthal king using as an example of how barbaric the homo sapiens are, the works.

No one's going to let them set up giant bonfires at every entrance and who knows how air circulates in there.

It's a pretty blatant set up that allows a smaller force defeat a larger enemy in a believable way. They just need to drive the guards back into the caves long enough for a fire to be built. Maybe they'll roll a pile of burning material in on a wagon or something.

  • claims to be the master race
  • can't actually breed more

so fucking funny. I do appreciate the dramatic irony though. The king wants to make whites the only race on Earth, but he can't do anything to produce that. All he can do in his twisted hatred is oppress and destroy.
