Just speed-ran another war-related manga (Otome Sensou Dívčí Válka, if anyone wondered,) and was about to be let free of the dread and cruelty of war, only to get relapsed with these chapters.

Thanks for the update! I appreciate that the commander has a sane head on his shoulders. The author does a good job of giving him a practical mix of realistic military attitude, and still have him as sympathetic.

I always assumed Zirconia married into noble status because she was a war hero. Promoting a commoner without military experience straight to General is kinda wild, even if it's to use sympathy to raise morale.

Not having the cold hard mental fortitude to be strong enough to still be some what mentally sane after watching your little sitter getting raped and killed while also simultaneously getting raped as well and stay calm enough to wait for an opportunity to rip out the throat of your rapist with your bare teeth and make an escape? Then plot and do what is necessary so you can get that opportunity to exact vengeance of the group that caused all that?

Maybe I've been binge watching too much Game of Thrones but I feel that that's what the nobility would do in that series.

The MC is still preaching how he "doesn't like war". The WN was supposedly even worse, the manga toned it back.

Likely that they didn’t have the drive to think that they could do anything about their situation. We live in a society where most of us have been brought up to think we could be anything, ignoring the economic realities that prevent that, that sort of mindset would have been very rare in feudal societies.

I did. I read the WN.
I'm simply cautioning you how it went down there for your own incredulity.

The manga editor has already changed a few things, thank god. Such as when Izetta almost got assaulted.
In the WN, tofu MC here sat there without even consoling her. While she was bawling her eyes out. Just thinking "oh how sad".
That complete lack of motivation or personality is bleeding through to the manga adaptation.

Fiction reflects the reality of the author that wrote it.
Which is why Korean manhwa MC don't tolerate this nonense. But JP manga often overly do.
(That's changing with the realities of an aggressive China and Russia, however.)

sorry, i didnt meant to comment about you. i was frustated by how the pace is too long because the author makes a basic mistakes (like, no guard sentry in state of war!) and other nonsense. your comments is just fit for me to comments. the fault is from the author, which you've already said already.

i did read others, like chinese manhua. i dont really like it because they butcher the story and pace from LN/WN, even worst when the scanlation team is using broken english!! meanwhile korean, their mc often times is not very relatable, usually very selfish and very a-hole-ish person. at least they dont have the nonsense of japs author though. i read japs manga because it's often light to read, at the beginning though, most of them keep getting worst imho. and that's frustated me
