I get that the mc is weaker than the demon lord, but what about the promise of the lord of the nether realm? ey? protection means not allowing things to happen to the city, he should know that this isn't something the people can deal with.

I like this manhua but this particular part feels contrived, as if the author thought Nie Li didn't have enough reason to hate the bad guy so he makes up a reason to hate him, but of course the waifus have to get away without serious injury. Logically, the demon lord should be killing or crippling most of them to avoid future danger to himself, but plot armor prevents him from doing that.

I agree with miranox, and add this: nie li's master promised to protect the city, but he is nowhere to be seen. The only reason to maybe do this arc would be for the demon lord to be denied entry to the dragon helm... even if that could leave glory city in a hard position. So this happening and the master not appearing? Doesn't make sense. And he should be there by now, but who knows.... if he appears in about 5 chapters, I guess this arc could be saved.

@Kiraage if you are talking about the lord of the nether realm he said that there is some protection against demon beasts, but the demon lord is a (ex)resident of glory city so he shouldn't, probably, meddle with it

Welp he dead. I don't even understand the point of the Demon Lord at all, he becomes a forgotten character. Just like the Nether Realm Master drops the ball and completely ignores the whole protecting Glory City.

@veggklokken I know, but it doesn't make this encounter less contrived.
@AsunaChidori It's hinted later on that demon lord has some important role in emperor Kong Ming's prophecies. My theory is that demon lord was supposed to be the final bad guy, but something happened to make the author extend the story, so he sort of had to recycle the demon lord and make a role for him in the extended story.
