If you haven't been checking the raws, well, hope you wanted another lengthy fight scene! 'Cause that's what's coming up.

Also, one more thing I didn't get into the notes: "No Turning Back" - the original title is apparently the Japanese version of "What's done can't be undone" ("can't put spilt water back in the jug", that sort of thing). I just wanted something shorter and snappier, FWIW.

So, what does it mean he "was possesed"? Is it any different that having a contract with a Vessel God like the rest?

Don't think so. I mean, we don't know (yet?) what sort of deal Riku made with her vessel god or how, but it's pretty much the same language the mangaka uses every now and again; I have translated it the same way before, in 2.2 and 5 (possibly other places, not sure). 憑 is the specific kanji that keeps coming up, as in e.g. "tsukareta", or 憑かれた, which as far as I can tell is literally "possessed" as in "I have been possessed by something", "something is possessing me" or whatever - AI overview gives "A state in which a spirit or spirit has taken over oneself, or one is controlled by another entity etc".

Might well have got it wrong somehow; the first time it came up I remember thinking "Would that really be the right word? Josui doesn't seem to be 'controlling' him". But maybe the mangaka's using a more general definition of "controlled" or "influenced by" sometimes, as in "This person is acting in a way they wouldn't normally do because they're constantly thinking about how they've got a contract with a vessel god, even if the god is not directly forcing them to do these things". 🤷‍♂️

everyone and their dogs with the spirits
He does kinda foreshadow this around 2.2 (Hana says to Josui "Look, everywhere has their own vessel gods" or something like that), but yeah. I did not think when I first gave this a shot that it'd turn into "What if Blade of the Immortal, but also JoJo". Still, it's not a dealbreaker (or at least it'd have to get a lot sillier/more fantastical for it to be a dealbreaker).
