i think the whole reason he is leaving is kinda explained with the last few pages of this chapter.
Ijuuin was trying to convince him to stay but turns away to run back once he sees a patient in need (ambulance drove by). Asada sees lots of patients that needs saving with NGO, hence later on you see he is back in war zone area.

In the end, Asada just want as much patients saved as possible, he knows Mejin got it covered with his whole crew there.

Thanks for the picking this series back up, i never got to finish reading the ending when i first read this manga.

Everything has resolved for everyone. Fujiyoshi is firmly established, maybe he will even become the next professor for cardiology; Arase has moved on from his days of addiction to a new dawn as a proper educator; Ijuuin has matured as a doctor; Katou may have had to let go of her personal feelings again but she is now where she always wanted to be; Miki has moved on from her past resentment and days of wasting away and now her future is wide open.

Everyone except Asada, that is. Even though his work at Meishin is done, he is the only one of them who has to harbor disappointment since he had to let go of his feelings for Katou. That is why he has to keep travelling, as he is the only one where their personal arc has not yet concluded.
