I really admire Takahashi’s writing. He has the sensitivity to not only see but understand a wide array of human circumstances and the skill to convincingly render them in writing and illustration. He writes bad people compellingly and sympathetically without condoning their wrongdoing, and oppressed and damaged people without robbing them of agency.
