And while there are regularly skits where someone gets shot or stabbed as a punchline, I think the brutality of this particular method makes it a bit tasteless to joke about.

tbf it's only alleged, no real proof it happened. and while horrible I don't think it's beyond being joked about. this is just fiction and Silica is clearly a joke character, her cluelessly suffering is the entire point

Terrorism is quite real and not from thousands of years ago. Alicia is frequently shown to engage in terrorist activity as a punchline and was named as one yet again in this very chapter. There's plenty more to be offended by in this manga if you look for it.

There's nothing tasteless about that, it's just a joke about silica receiving every suffering available to mankind it's running gag it doesn't mock any particular group, believe, people or deceased person.

Besides scapism is only allegedly execution method, no real proof it ever happen or done by ancient persians only text exist describe it is from some ancient greek writer and historian, and if you read history about it during this time they extremely hostile to each other, some kind propaganda to dehumanize enemy by exaggerating or faking history or report is common method, so we must careful about believing some historical text without any solid tangible proof.
