Agreed, it was rather underwhelming. Note sure how it could end though since to be fair not a lot actually happens.
Also, the problem with this title is that Mingmei actually falling in love wasn't really explained well or satisfying.

If anything, a bad ending with Mingmei actually refusing to admit his feelings and Ryuren dying in the end to protect the former or something who then finally admits and realizes would be better.

I sincerely doubt it with the pace it was taking. It felt like it was planned to be 3 volumes and it exactly fit into 3 volumes so it would have had to be cancelled just at the start of volume 3.

That's 60% of the titles of the magazine in which it runs. This artist's main title. Initially running in the same magazine and currently at around 50 chapters is far worse anyway.
