This guard is so fired. He sees someone in noble-like clothes and pulled him to the commoner examination area.

@Nep can't really blame the guard too much too, cause there was a sign at the entrance that stated noble are to report to the north entrance, but MC was in such a hurry that he didn't bother to look after thanking the gaurd for still allowing him to enter when he barely made it in time.

This really just felt like an rpg, you decide to continue the main quest, but end up doing every single side quest possible, and by the time you remember of the main quest, you’re way too strong for anything to be a threat anymore

@Lazyxbum They are both at fault. However, the guard of the Southern entrance shouldn't be pulling him in and instead redirect him to the North.

@entity_101 Im the person that would "fail" the main quest (especially if it is exam based) because I would forget literally everything after clearing the sidequests 🤣

@nep true that they're both at fault, but i feel that MC should be the one with the heavier blame since after leaving his home, he should've just went straight to school, instead like 'blablablah' stated he got too distracted on the way, when he knew today was exam day.

also to those that say the school is corrupt, there's have been rulers that executed the heads of schools/etc for disgracing the royal family or something a bit less cruel before (both fictional and irl), i'm pretty sure the school didn't want to be on the bad side of royals (tyrants). i'm not saying that they aren't corrupt, but it could be justified.

I can't even blame the trope for being a tired old one because it makes too much sense.

I was expecting the cliche where he ends up being late, but among the people he helped was someone from the school and so it turns out fine.

Corruption trickles down, true. It's still corruption. Wield corruption to protect from corruption, they're still corrupt.

This is equivalent to a random country hick elementary school drop out taking a Harvard Exam and being ranked first in grades.
It would make the University look incompetent as well as everyone with years of 4.0 GPA
You can't exactly blame the University for wanting to protect their reputation because their reputation is their most valuable commodity monetarily speaking.

I am very common. Common as the abundant hydrogen atoms in the universe. Not as common as the astatine element.

Wow that is beyond scummy. And here I thought the country was pretty well run with a not twisted King for once (well I suppose it could just be the academy and some nobles). Also that exam was VERY poorly run. I mean sure the MC should have paid more attention and not been late and distracted, but still. If they are going to put so much emphasis and care on class status (over results apparently) then there should be a better system in place than ONE FREAKING SIGN. Seriously NO ONE asked to make sure the MC was a commoner (even with the ridiculously expensive clothes he wore). I would kinda understand if it was the “they’re commoners we don’t care”, but they didn’t even do a background check or anything of the sort when he did exceptionally well? What did he not put his name down or something (because just his last name should have betrayed that he’s a noble). I mean for the most prestigious and uber important school, they could at least pretend to care more when their students test. Alternatively, I wonder how much effort they put in on the nobles said. If they also don’t check after you enter then all you need is some fancy clothes and ANY commoner could test as a noble. That all said the school really shouldn’t even separate by noble and commoners. It clearly just allows for unfair discrimination and apparently makes things more confusing for the mc (so by default it is the worst thing ever because I hate pointless annoying misunderstanding arcs). If I snuck into an SAT with a different identity, I’d have to forge a hundred documents and change my appearance; here I’d just need to follow the wrong sign.

even with a good person on top, if people in between are scummy, shit will still happen.

Oh well. They'll eventually learn they fucked up since both are his brides lol
