Didn't they capture the slaver who was last with Leila, before the barrier? If you check ch 5, the man was caught alive. Didn't torturing that dude reveal anything? Or did the author just forget the man? I can't help but feel House Remington is somehow connected to this whole mess. The investigators could only speak to their servants, nobody else? That seems pretty suspicious. Perhaps Remington was afraid of Albans getting too powerful and schemed to remove Leila.
