I don't know about Alisteir, but Leila obviously isn't that country's citizen and subject. She has zero obligation to humour that prince. All the prince can do is to threaten her with violence or try to buy her services. That's it.
All that being said, though, it was quite crafty to give such a (crying) first impression. It should make the prince both underestimate her and doubt his own plans.

Lol, the only good thing about the innerwork of that side of country is how they develop and strengthen their place with those hollows around, no wonder they don't care much about the citizens there, so long they are in the territory they all just a citizen to them regardless of origin.
This side of country's innerwork always in conflict with the hollows and in the more frequent side as they aren't prioritizing citizen's wellbeing and happiness, they prioritize more on survival, defense, offense, and bloodline. They just fed up with the hollows and will by all means do whatever to strengthen their defense and offense to deal with the hollows.
Think of these as a city bordering in two nation's conflict that just so happen to get in the crossover, they won't stay put and will focus to defend their city and if any promising child born they will take advantages of it just to keep up with the two nation's power. No happiness will taken into account and a family that live happily there can't stay happy forever, especially if they happen to had a gifted child of a good bloodline.
