But it's a part of that 'grimdark' theme isn't it. You have to call it a win because any other result would have been worse.

In a place where there are only losing paths forward, the least loss is the only way to 'win'. Not stopping this creature here would probably have sealed the fate of all the teams currently forward deployed and let the tentacles loose on the world.

I would say you're safe to partake in a little copium at the moment. Even if just barely, If they survive long enough for MC to make it back and cum all over them then they'll be fine.

Either he's ingested enough tentacle through experimentation that he's not entirely human still, or it passed through his skull such that it didn't insta-kill him, and he was able to use some experimental medicine to partially heal himself back up. One of the two things, I think.
